Zamfara approves 120-day emergency plan to fix education sector

Governor Dauda Lawal has approved a 120-day rapid intervention plan to address challenges in Zamfara State’s education sector.

The decision was taken at the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Gusau.

According to the council, the plan includes payroll audits, school mapping and infrastructure assessments.

It also targets reforms in governance, teacher development, digital transformation and student welfare.

“The council approved a 120-day rapid intervention plan that builds on prior diagnostic activities,” the statement said.

The council also approved the establishment of a committee to assess illegal structures around schools and relocate them to secure learning environments.

It further approved a unified education sector bill covering early childhood to tertiary education, to be presented to the State House of Assembly.

In addition, non-teaching staff in schools will be redeployed to relevant ministries, departments and agencies.

The council also approved the composition of a steering committee on the state of emergency in education, with a technical working group to include stakeholders such as unions, development partners and traditional leaders.
