“You see this thing called Omugwo, it's over-hyped. Somebody like me, I stopped my mom from coming to my house when I gave birth to my second child. I have four kids. There was something she said, and immediately, I change am for am.
Tell me, why you come for Omugwo, not like you are that old. You are not that old. You will come for Omugwo. Me that just came back from the hospital, I'm the one that will still cook, clean, bathe myself, do almost all the whole house chores and still serve you.
And maybe sometimes she will carry the child. But other homely activities, you will be acting like you don't care.
When I had my second baby, one morning, I pretended I wasn't strong. There was no food at home, and I wasn't even ready to cook anything. So I was expecting my mom to be like, ‘Okay, what do you people have, so that I can help you do the breakfast?’
You know the next question she asked me? She literally said, ‘Is she the one that is going to prepare what me and my husband will eat?’ I was like, where is this question coming from? The thing broke me down.
I was like, ‘What do you mean by are you the one that will prepare what me and my husband will eat? Is it that when you prepare it, I'm not going to eat, or has my husband ever rejected your food?’ I don't understand.
I no waste time. Na only two weeks she stay for that Omugwo. I just find one story tell her, give her transport make she go back. As simple as that.
And ever since then, going down to the other of my kids, the remaining two, na me dey do everything by myself. I just see it as I don't have anybody...”
