The Action for Accountability and Good Governance (AAGG) has showered praises on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what it described as the successful, peaceful and credible conduct of the Osun State governorship election.

The group said the election, conducted under the leadership of INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, reflected significant improvements in logistics, deployment of personnel and materials, use of technology and transparency in the electoral process.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday and signed by its National President, Prince Peter Bassey Asuquo, AAGG noted that the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the poll and the transparent collation of results had further strengthened public confidence in Nigeria’s democracy.

The group commended INEC officials for their professionalism before, during and after the election, stressing that prompt accreditation of voters, adherence to electoral guidelines and collaboration with security agencies contributed to a smooth and orderly exercise.

“AAGG particularly notes the efforts of the Commission to ensure inclusivity, with provisions for persons with disabilities, women and the elderly at polling units. This reflects a growing institutional maturity that should be sustained and improved upon in future elections,” the statement read.

The organisation urged the electoral umpire to build on the success recorded in Osun as the country prepares for future off-cycle elections and the next general elections.

It also called on political parties, candidates and citizens to continue to embrace peace, respect the rule of law and support INEC in the discharge of its constitutional mandate.

AAGG further congratulated Prof. Yakubu, National Commissioners, the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner and all members of staff of the commission for what it described as a job well done.
According to the group, credible elections remain vital to the growth, stability and consolidation of Nigeria’s democracy.
