- no evidence of widespread transmission
From Fred Ezeh, Abuja
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed that the single COVID-19 case in Cross-River State has been isolated, and is stable.
It also confirmed that the patient is receiving adequate care in line with national guidelines.
NCDC, in a statement, on Wednesday, said it has taken response measures including contact tracing, surveillance, and also added that Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures have been activated in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health and partners.
“All identified contacts are being followed up appropriately, and there is no evidence at this time of widespread transmission,” it said.
NCDC asked the public to maintain good hygiene, stay home if unwell, and follow updates from official health authorities, and promised that it will continue to closely monitor the situation, and will provide updates as needed.
Cross River Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk, on Tuesday, reported a case of COVID-19 in the state involving a Chinese national who worked with Lafarge and flew into the country on March 17 before falling ill.
The Commissioner stated that the Chinese’s condition became worse at the medical facility under his office, and had to be taken to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) where samples were taken, and all protocols followed, and it was subsequently confirmed that he had symptoms of COVID-19.
