Plateau: Gunmen kill two at mining site

Two persons have been killed by suspected gunmen at a mining site around Kuru Jenta in Heipang District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. The incident reportedly occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Friday while the victims were carrying out activities at the mining site.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident and called on security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the attackers.

Tengwong described the killing as unfortunate and urged security agencies to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

He also cautioned residents, particularly miners, against engaging in mining activities at night, urging them to remain vigilant and comply with security measures put in place by the government.

A resident of the affected community, Mrs Bulus Weng, who also confirmed the incident, urged residents to desist from night mining.

Weng condemned the killing, noting that the victims were at the mining site during the curfew imposed by the state government.

She urged residents to respect the restricted hours, remain vigilant and avoid activities that could expose them to security risks.

Weng also called on residents to take necessary precautions in view of the prevailing security situation in the area.
