‘Petrol sales will not stop’ — IPMAN assures Nigerians

The Financial Secretary of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Musa Yahaya Mai Kifi, has dismissed reports suggesting that petrol sales in Nigeria will be halted, describing the claim as false and taken out of context.
Speaking in an interview with DAILY POST, Mai Kifi said, “The claim that petrol sales will stop is not true, that is not an accurate interpretation of what was said, we have moved beyond a system where the government fixes petrol prices.
“The current arrangement gives every marketer the opportunity to buy petrol from anywhere in the world, they can bring it into Nigeria for sale or take it to any other country, just as Dangote Refinery is currently exporting petroleum products, including to the United States.”
On the supply of Nigerian crude oil to the Dangote Refinery, the IPMAN official proposed a structured pricing arrangement to ensure stability across the supply chain.
“The solution is that if Dangote is to receive Nigeria’s crude oil, there should be an agreement. If we supply the crude at a certain price, Dangote should sell refined products at an agreed price, and marketers who buy from the refinery should also sell at an agreed price, that is the only solution,” he said.
Speaking to newsmen on Tuesday, the National Publicity Secretary of IPMAN, Chinedu Ukadike, rejected claims that marketers were profiteering and argued that many operators were already grappling with financial losses caused by frequent price reductions in the market.
He warned that any attempt to dictate pump prices in a deregulated market would be resisted.
