Jigawa begins disbursement of N661m pension, death benefits to retirees

The Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board has commenced the disbursement of over N661 million in terminal and death benefits to 272 retirees and relatives of deceased civil servants across the state.

Speaking during the disbursement ceremony held at the Pension House in Dutse, the Head of Service, Muhammad K. Dagaceri, said a total sum of N661,162,525.84 would be paid to retired workers and families of deceased civil servants under the contributory pension scheme.

He explained that the payment covers gratuities, death benefits and death pension balances for workers from the state civil service, local government councils and local education authorities who either voluntarily retired, attained retirement age or died while in active service.

According to him, N519,836,677.71 would be paid to 220 retired workers, while N123,241,273.10 would be disbursed to 37 relatives of civil servants who died in active service.

Dagaceri added that another N18,078,575.03 would be paid to 15 beneficiaries of retirees who had earlier retired and started receiving monthly pensions but died before completing the mandatory minimum period of five years after retirement.

The Head of Service stated that the Jigawa State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme remained up to date with the payment of retirees’ entitlements and monthly pensions across the state.

He noted that the development reflected the commitment of the administration of Governor Umar Namadi to the welfare and financial security of retired civil servants.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the scheme, Bilyaminu Shitu Aminu, disclosed that the board had disbursed N3.6 billion to 1,428 retirees and families of deceased civil servants from January 2026 to date.

He said that, out of the amount, N2.87 billion was paid to 1,161 retired workers, while N639.8 million was disbursed to families of civil servants who died while in service.

The Executive Secretary commended Governor Namadi for introducing reforms and injecting billions of naira into the pension scheme, saying the intervention had strengthened the scheme and boosted confidence among workers approaching retirement.

He said the government’s support had significantly improved the viability of the pension system and ensured the prompt settlement of retirees’ benefits.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke during the event expressed appreciation for the timely payment.
