FG, Uzodimma back Heartland pharmaceutical wholesale hub in Imo
The Federal Government and the Imo State government have backed the establishment of Heartland Pharmaceutical and Allied Products Hub, which would serve as a coordinated wholesale centre for the distribution of medicinal products in the state.
The Coordinator of the Project, Dr Francis Emeka, who made the disclosure to newsmen, on Wednesday, said that Governor Uzodimma has already approved a spacious land at the Mgbidi Community in Oru West council for the project.
Dr Emeka said, “We have secured a spacious land for the CWC project at Mgbidi in Oru West council, via the approval of the state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, and the Oru West council chairman at no cost to the Heartland Pharmaceutical Hub and Allied products Limited.
“The CWC, when completed, will have high-tech cooling facilities based on the federal government’s National Drug Distribution Guidelines (NDDG)”.
He further disclosed that the CWC is private sector funded, while the federal government has the regulatory oversight through the relevant agencies which include Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) and National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
“Heartland Pharmaceutical Hub and Allied Products Limited will bring about sanity in our drug distribution system as well as reduction in the prevalence of fake and adulterated medicinal products in our health care system. The CWC initiative will greatly enhance access to quality and affordable medications.
He added, “It will expand the GDP of the state and the economy through foreign direct investment. Imo State will also experience a growth in her internally generated revenue by harnessing the multiple revenue possibilities as presented by this organised business community,” he said.
Dr Emeka expressed his gratitude to Governor Uzodimma for his support to ensure that the legacy project is realised by approving the land for the site and, also, to the Oru West council Chairman, Adikibe Ikenna, for securing the land and the host communities who welcomed the project.
