Chris Brown pleads guilty to affray over 2023 London nightclub fight

Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray in connection with a 2023 nightclub altercation in London, avoiding a trial on more serious charges. The 37-year-old singer entered the guilty plea on Friday at Southwark Crown Court after the charge was read to him, simply responding, “Guilty,” while appearing in court dressed in a beige suit and dark brown tie. As part of the plea, prosecutors confirmed that charges of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon involving a bottle, which Brown had previously denied, will be formally dropped at a later date.

The case stems from an incident at Tape, an exclusive private members’ club in London’s Hanover Square, on February 19, 2023, during Brown’s UK tour. Prosecutors alleged that a man was struck with a bottle before being chased and assaulted during the confrontation. The alleged victim, who was also charged in connection with the incident, pleaded guilty to affray and is expected to be sentenced alongside Brown. The singer, who was arrested in May 2025 after arriving in the UK by private jet and spent nearly a week in custody before securing £5 million ($6.7 million) bail, is scheduled to be sentenced on October 26.

Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, Judge Tony Baumgartner allowed Brown to continue his scheduled world tour, which kicked off in Amsterdam in June. Rising to international fame with chart-topping hits such as “Run It!”, “Forever,” “With You,” “No Air“ with Jordin Sparks, “Loyal,” and “Under the Influence,” Brown remains one of R&B’s biggest stars. Over the years, however, his successful music career has frequently been overshadowed by legal troubles, including his widely publicized 2009 assault case involving singer Rihanna and other run-ins with the law.
