We Are Working Assiduously in the South East to Nip Insecurity in the Bud – Governor Otti

The Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti has restated the state’s collaboration with relevant federal government law enforcement Agencies aimed at controlling the proliferation of Small Arms and light weapons across the country.

The Abia Chief Executive who gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of the new South East zonal Director of the National Center for the Control of Small Arms and light weapons Captain Chris Anusiem, stressed the need for the complete elimination of small arms as most crimes in the society are traceable to small arms and light weapons .

Governor Otti who re-emphasised tte important place of security in his administration, made case for all hands to be on deck in the struggle as the federal government alone cannot achieve the needed success.

The Governor further disclosed that the state government is working with the south East and other neighbouring states to nip insecurity in the bud, calked on the center to work with sister security agencies in the state towards achieving their targets.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for setting up the center and for appointing DIG Johnson Babatunde Kokumo as the Director General of the Center .

Earlier, the new South East Zonal Director, National Center for the control of Small Arms and light weapons, Captain Chris Anusiem explained that he was in the state for a familiarisation visit following his posting to Enugu to superintend over the zonal office and assured the Governor of his collaboration with the state government towards reducing the ploriferation of small arms and light weapons in the zone to its barest minimum.

He explained that the vision of the agency is to promote illicit arms-free society, adding that one of the greatest challenges of the center is the possession of small arms by non-state actors.
