Former Sporting CP winger, Nani has dismissed rumours that striker, Viktor Gyokeres could go on strike at the club after having transfer talks with Premier League clubs Arsenal and Manchester United.

Nani, however, expects Gyokeres, who he described as a ‘professional’ to turn up for pre-season training if he is still on Sporting’s books.

Gyokeres’ future at Sporting has been the subject of intense speculation this summer after his brilliant display last season.

The Sweden international scored 54 goals in 52 games to help the Portuguese club win a domestic double.

It’s understood that both Arsenal and Manchester United have held talks with the player’s camp in a bid to sign him.

But neither of the two Premier League clubs have been able to strike a deal with Sporting for the 27-year-old’s signature.

Gyokeres is keen to leave Sporting this summer and there are suggestions that the attacker could go on ‘strike’ and refuse to show up for pre-season training in order to force through a transfer to England this summer.

When asked whether he expects Gyokeres to turn up to training, Nani, a former Manchester United player, said (via Metro): “I believe so, he is a professional. I believe he will show up.

“If he doesn’t show up it’s because he’s going to another club,” he said.

He added, “He is a fantastic player, who has done a lot for Sporting and has several clubs interested in him.

“It starts to create that anxiety, but I am sure that, whether he stays or leaves, he will have the right support and will be satisfied.”
