Student allegedly stabbed to death in Niger varsity

A 25-year-old 300-level student of the Federal University of Education Kontagora, Seyi Simon, has been allegedly stabbed to death during a freshers’ party organised for newly admitted students.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday at the institution’s hall in Kontagora, Niger State.

Sources told Daily Trust that the altercation happened around 1:00 a.m. and involved an 18-year-old suspect, Jafar Musa, who was said to be a member of the Man O’ War unit attached to the university.

A student, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said what began as a minor argument escalated into a violent confrontation.

“It started as a misunderstanding but later turned into a fight between the two,” the source said.

The spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident.

He said the victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Kontagora, where he was confirmed dead, while the suspect has been arrested.

“On April 5, 2026, at about 1:40 a.m., a report was received at ‘A’ Division Kontagora that during a party organised by students for newly admitted students at the school hall, a misunderstanding occurred between one Jafar Musa, 18, of Angwan-Gwari area of Kontagora, and one Seyi Simon, 25, a student of the institution,” he said.

“In the course of the fight, Jafar Musa stabbed the student with a dagger. The victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Kontagora, where he was confirmed dead. The suspect has been arrested and is currently under investigation.”

Police said further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
