STATEMENT FROM ROSESON OBASI (DONKO), FOUNDER OF DONKO CARE FOUNDATION AND LEADER OF ABIA MOVE FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE

I wish to use this medium to wholeheartedly applaud Hon. Alex Ikwuechegh, the distinguished leadership of the Old Bende Progressive Union, and our revered Traditional Rulers for their bold, timely, and unshaken endorsement of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for a second term as the Executive Governor of Abia State.

I was not only a witness but an active participant in the meeting where this endorsement was made, and I must commend the wisdom and clarity of purpose that guided such a unifying decision. It is refreshing to see that, at long last, Abia is aligning behind a vision of competent leadership, purposeful governance, and people-oriented development.

However, I must categorically dismiss and describe as nothing but comic relief, the desperate attempts by a faceless group masquerading as “Old Bende Young Professionals” who recently issued a so-called rebuttal to the endorsement. Let it be known that this group is unknown, unauthentic, and non-existent in any credible structure within Old Bende or Abia at large. Their antics are the last kicks of those who have fed fat on the commonwealth of Abia in the past—agents of propaganda, enemies of progress, and seekers of stomach infrastructure, rather than the state infrastructure and institutional reforms Governor Otti is delivering.

To all well-meaning Abians, I urge you to see beyond these tired distractions and smear campaigns. The truth is clear, and it is working right before our eyes. Dr. Alex Otti’s administration, in just over a year, has outperformed the combined efforts of the last 24 years:

Timely payment of salaries and pensions to civil servants and retirees, ending the shameful legacy of arrears and suffering.
Massive road infrastructure projects, including the dualization of major roads in Umuahia and Aba—roads that were death traps for decades under previous governments.
Clean, transparent procurement processes and an unprecedented level of fiscal responsibility and budget discipline.
Revival of the healthcare and education sectors, including equipping hospitals and upgrading schools, not just on paper but on the ground.

Launching Abia Innovation Industrial Parks, youth empowerment programs, and creating an enabling environment for investment and entrepreneurship.
Dr. Otti is laying foundations that were long overdue, fighting corruption, cutting waste, and redirecting our resources to where they matter, for the people. That is the very definition of good governance, and that is why we must rally around him to complete this new chapter for Abia State.

Let us reject every attempt to distract, divide, or derail this progress. Let us not fall again for the crumbs of political merchants who, for 24 years, brought nothing but decay, poverty, and hopelessness to our land. Abia has started a journey toward real transformation, and Governor Alex Otti is the captain of that voyage.

Once again, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Alex Ikwuechegh, the entire leadership of the Old Bende Progressive Union, and our respected traditional rulers for your courage, wisdom, and commitment to a better Abia.

Let us stay united, stay focused, and keep supporting the light that is finally shining in our dear state. The future we have long prayed for is within reach, let us protect it.
