Safaricom – Whatsapp Saga

Safaricom has responded to comedian Mulamwah’s complaints after his number was reportedly sold just two days after he landed in China, leading to unauthorized transactions and a hacked WhatsApp account.

The telecom giant confirmed that Mulamwah’s line was barred on September 18, 2025, at 1:47 AM. They clarified that WhatsApp is not a Safaricom service and advised him to engage the platform directly for assistance, providing the official support link.

Safaricom Care stated: “David, we can confirm we replied by email that the number was barred as of 18/9/2025 01:47:17 AM. Please check. WhatsApp is not a Safaricom service; therefore, we can only recommend that you engage the platform directly.”

Mulamwah is now left to resolve the WhatsApp issue separately.
