The decision was reached on Tuesday during plenary after the adoption of a motion moved by the Minority Leader, Hon. Kingsley Chinda.

The lawmakers expressed concern over the disruption caused by the aggrieved contractors, who were reportedly protesting non-payment for executed projects. The House noted that the situation required immediate intervention to restore order and ensure the safety of members, staff, and visitors within the complex.

Hon. Chinda, in his motion, emphasized the need for the leadership of the House to engage relevant authorities to address the grievances of the contractors and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

Following deliberations, the House resolved to suspend plenary for one week to allow for consultations and proper handling of the matter.

The suspension is expected to provide room for dialogue between the contractors, the management of the National Assembly, and concerned government agencies to find a lasting solution to the issue.
