PHOTOS: 100 suspected thugs arrested during by-election in Kano

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the arrest of about 100 suspected political thugs in Bagwai Local Government Area during Saturday’s by-election.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kano, Abdu Zango, disclosed this to newsmen in Bagwai, saying security agencies were on top of the situation to ensure the election proceeded peacefully.
“All those (suspects) we have seen have been rounded up, and the process is going on peacefully. I am really impressed. Sensitive materials were deployed on time, and polling commenced at about 8:30 a.m. in most places.
“Although there were isolated cases of delay due to vehicle breakdowns and attempts by some groups to disrupt movement, security forces were on hand to ensure stability and restore order. The process is still ongoing,” Zango said.
