The Office for Strategic Preparedness and Resilience (OSPRE), in collaboration with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the European Union (EU), and the German Development Agency (GIZ), has unveiled the Nigeria Country Resilience and Human Security Assessment, a report designed to strengthen the country’s capacity to withstand security, economic, and environmental shocks.

The unveiling took place in Abuja, marking what experts described as a major step toward institutionalizing evidence-based national preparedness and risk management.

In a statement, OSPRE’s Strategic Communications Officer, Amina Wali, said the assessment provides an in-depth analysis of Nigeria’s resilience systems and human security dynamics. She noted that the report will serve as a strategic framework for guiding national policy, planning, and coordination in tackling multidimensional threats.

Speaking at the event, OSPRE Director-General Chris Ngwodo described the assessment as a “critical milestone in Nigeria’s national strategy for resilience and human security”. He emphasized that the initiative would enable federal and state institutions to anticipate risks, coordinate interventions, and build adaptive capacities across key sectors.

“Resilience is no longer optional, it is the organizing principle for national security and development,” Ngwodo declared. “This assessment gives Nigeria the diagnostic tools to understand its vulnerabilities and the data to act decisively”.

Representatives of ECOWAS, the EU, and GIZ commended Nigeria for taking what they termed a forward-looking approach to national resilience. They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the implementation of the report’s recommendations through technical cooperation, policy dialogue, and institutional capacity building.

According to the partners, the assessment will not only improve inter-agency coordination but also ensure that security, development, and humanitarian efforts are integrated within a unified framework.

The report is expected to become a reference tool for government ministries, development agencies, and policy institutions in strengthening Nigeria’s resilience architecture and enhancing citizens’ human security outcomes.
