Nigerian Army Court Sentences Soldier to Death for Murder of Tricycle Rider

A Nigerian Army General Court Martial sitting at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos, has sentenced Private Lukman Musa to death by hanging for the murder of a tricycle rider.

The court found Musa guilty after a thorough trial, during which evidence established that he unlawfully shot and killed the victim in Jos. The judgment, delivered on Wednesday, underscores the Armyโs commitment to upholding discipline and ensuring that acts of misconduct and human rights violations are met with appropriate punishment.
Delivering the judgment, the Court Martial stressed that the Nigerian Army operates under strict codes of conduct and rules of engagement, and will not hesitate to sanction personnel who act outside the law.
The ruling is, however, subject to confirmation by the military authorities before the sentence can be carried out.
