Niger Assembly begins screening of 30 commissioner nominees

The Niger State House of Assembly has begun screening of 30 commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago to the House for approval into the State Executive Council

The commissioner nominees were screened at the Assembly Complex presided by the Speaker, Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkindaji in Minna

Out of the 30 nominees proposed by Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago, 10 were screened on the first day, with nine receiving unanimous approval.

The confirmed nominees from various local governments include Mu’azu Hamidu Jantabo ( Lapai) Hadiza Asabe Mohammed (Bida_) ,Kabiru Abbas ( Mariga) ,and Nasiru Muazu (Chanchaga),

Others are Lawal Mohammed (Kontagora), Abubakar Musa ( Paikoro), Barrister Maurice Magaji (Munya), Bashir Mohammed Lokogoma (Wushishi) and Murtala Bagana( Bida)

However, the nomination of Muhammad Agwara was deferred due to prior legal actions against the House.

According to the Chief Whip, Abubakar Kabir, the nomination of Mohammed Agwara has to be temporarily deferred over prior legal actions against the House which he described as a breach of trust.

The screening process is expected to continue on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

Recall Bago had stated that the nominees were selected based on their integrity, competence, and dedication to Niger State’s development.

He emphasized his administration’s commitment to inclusiveness, meritocracy, and consolidating the gains of the “New Niger” agenda through effective service delivery.

The Governor urged the nominees to remain committed to transforming Niger State into a model of sustainable growth and responsible governance.
