Abdullahi Sule OSLEsQ

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has confirmed that arrests have been made in connection with the recent deadly attack on Akunza-Ashige community in Lafia Local Government Area, assuring residents that security agencies are still pursuing other suspects linked to the incident.
The governor made the disclosure during a bi-monthly press conference held in Lafia, the state capital, following public concern over the violent assault carried out by masked men during a traditional wedding ceremony.

DAILY POST reported that on December 31, 2025, armed attackers invaded the Akunza-Ashige community in the early hours of the day, killing 3 persons and leaving several others seriously injured.

Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Mr. Peter Ahemba, Governor Sule said the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, responded promptly to the attack to restore calm in the area.

“When news of the unfortunate incident reached the government, the governor immediately mobilised security agencies, including the Commissioner of Police, to the scene,” Ahemba said.

“Security personnel took charge of the situation, normalcy has been restored, arrests have been made, and more suspects are still being hunted.”

He added that the government has put measures in place to ensure lasting peace in the affected community and across Nasarawa State, stressing that those responsible for the attack would be brought to justice.

Ahemba also disclosed that the Governor has continued to consult widely with relevant stakeholders on key political issues in the state, including the ongoing debate over the zoning of the governorship seat.

According to him, no final decision has been reached on whether the governorship should be zoned to the southern, northern or western senatorial district.

“The governor is consulting, and stakeholders are also consulting in the overall interest of Nasarawa State,” he said, adding that the ruling party would make its position known to the public at the appropriate time.
