NANS warns FCTA against intimidating former student leader

The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has alleged the intimidation of one of its former leaders, Dr Donald Amagbo, a former Public Relations Officer, Zone C of the association by some officials of DOAS in the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA.
In a statement signed by Comrade Anzaku Shedrack Ovye, the Secretary General NANS National, the association described Amagbo as one of its Ambassadors, who conducts his business in legal and legitimate manner.
“NANS condemns all forms of intimidation by DOAS-FCTA of young entrepreneurs, particularly one of NANS Ambassadors and former PRO of NANS Zone C: Comrade Dr. Donald Amagbo a licensed advert practitioner. We are fully in support of the struggle to save the outdoor advertising industry in FCT from some cabalistic civil servants in DOAS-FCTA who are combining being civil servants with working as advertising practitioners and owning advertising companies with most of the billboards all over FCT and using same to enrich themselves.”
The association accused an Assistant Director, who is also the managing director of an advertising agency of using security agencies; enforcement teams; faceless groups in the media to attack and intimidate Comrade Donald Amagbo and other AMAC technical partners to protect their business. “We may be forced to picket both DOAS And FCDA Secretariat soon, if these actions are not stopped by AMMC and FCTA officials.
We recommend that: National Assembly set up a Board of Trustees to represent the area councils, and the FCT Minister to establish the Abuja Signage and Advertising Coordination Agency to be headed by an ARCON/OAAN licensed practitioner outside the civil service in order to ensure professionalism and to coordinate uniform and unbiased regulations, revenue generation and scrap the DOAS.
“Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) Act for regulators and practitioners should be implemented for regulators and consultants for adverts in FCT and Area Councils to get rid of non-professionals in the industry like seen in DOAS-FCTA
“Hence, we will invite the Code of Conduct Bureau to investigate these DOAS-FCTA staff and prosecute them appropriately in order to remove the DOAS cabal from the industry. We therefore statebthat any attempt to defame our leader will be met with resistance because of his integrity and self esteem.”
