According to eyewitness accounts gathered on Monday, the incident occurred last Friday when the victim, pretending to be a customer, reportedly stole groundnut oil from a stall in the bustling market. A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that the man was apprehended in the act by traders and onlookers.

In a disturbing turn of events, the mob, angered by the theft, allegedly heated a portion of the stolen oil and poured it on the man’s back, inflicting severe burns. The victim was left writhing in pain until he was eventually rescued and rushed to a nearby medical facility, where he remains in critical condition.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident, and efforts are underway to identify both the victim and those involved in the mob attack. The Lagos State Police Command has reiterated its stance against jungle justice and urged the public to report crimes to law enforcement agencies rather than taking the law into their own hands.

The state government and human rights groups have condemned the act and called for justice for the victim while emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law in addressing criminal behavior.
