Kwankwasiyya denies APC talks
The Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed reports alleging that its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is engaged in negotiations with the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the claims as false, speculative and misleading.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Dr Habibu Sale Mohammed, the movement said Kwankwaso had never entered into discussions with the APC, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or any intermediary for the purpose of defecting.
“We state clearly and without ambiguity that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has never engaged in negotiations or meetings with the APC for defection. These claims are entirely baseless,” the statement said.
The group clarified that the last formal meeting between Kwankwaso and President Tinubu took place in January 2024 and did not involve discussions on defection or political bargaining. It warned that unverified reports and televised commentaries risk misleading the public and damaging reputations.
The movement also alleged that the reports were part of attempts by some political actors to discredit Kwankwaso ahead of future realignments, urging Nigerians to disregard what it termed fabricated narratives.
Meanwhile, the Senator representing Kano Central, Rufa’i Sani Hanga, described as unfortunate the recent defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to the APC, alleging that the governor now trusts former political adversaries.
Hanga, a prominent figure in the Kwankwasiyya movement, said Yusuf’s defection had angered many supporters who felt misled into abandoning Kwankwaso and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
He claimed the APC lured Yusuf with assurances of electoral victory and protection, questioning why political actors who allegedly frustrated him in previous elections were now being trusted.
Hanga said the Kwankwasiyya movement had grown stronger politically across Kano, insisting that past electoral successes were achieved despite opposition, not because of it.
