INEC Chairman Advocates Greater Women’s Inclusion in Politics

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to building an inclusive democratic system, stressing the need for increased participation of women in politics.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made this known while addressing stakeholders at, where he highlighted the importance of gender balance in governance and decision-making.Yakubu noted that despite women constituting a significant percentage of Nigeria’s population, their representation in elective and appointed positions remains low. He urged political parties, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to work together in dismantling barriers that limit women’s involvement in the political process.

The INEC boss further assured that the Commission would continue to implement policies and initiatives aimed at creating a more level playing field, while also strengthening advocacy for gender inclusion in future elections.
