FG Introduces New Policy to Regulate Non-State Schools, Improve Education Standards

The Federal Government has announced the introduction of a comprehensive new policy aimed at regulating non-state schools, including private and faith-based institutions. This move is part of broader efforts to enhance the quality of education across the country and ensure greater accountability in the education sector.
The new policy sets out clear standards for school infrastructure, curriculum delivery, teacher qualifications, and operational transparency. It is designed to promote consistency in educational outcomes, safeguard learners’ rights, and create an enabling environment for effective teaching and learning.
According to the Ministry of Education, the policy was developed through a wide consultative process involving stakeholders from the public and private sectors, including school proprietors, educational experts, parents, and regulatory bodies.
“This policy is not about stifling private initiative in education, but about ensuring that all children, regardless of where they go to school – receive quality education that meets national standards,” the Minister of Education stated.

The Federal Government has pledged to work closely with state governments to ensure smooth implementation of the policy nationwide. Monitoring and evaluation mechanisms will also be strengthened to ensure compliance and continuous improvement. The policy takes immediate effect, with transitional provisions to allow schools time to align with the new requirements.
