El-Rufai better FCT Minister than Wike — Sen Kingibe

The senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Ireti Kingibe, has said that the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai, performed better as FCT Minister than the incumbent minister, Nyesom Wike.
This, she noted, is despite the former Rivers State governor’s infrastructure drive in Abuja.
Kingibe made the remarks on Tuesday while appearing on Political Paradigm, a programme on Channels Television.
According to the lawmaker, ordinary residents of Abuja are not benefitting from Wike’s projects in the capital city, stressing that the minister is out of touch with the people’s real needs.
She argued that to be a successful FCT Minister, one must go beyond infrastructure alone.
The senator expressed disagreement with those praising Wike’s performance in Abuja, insisting that his projects do not address the daily economic struggles of FCT residents.
“If you ask any FCT person who has been the minister who has performed the most in the FCT, they will tell you El-Rufai. Why? El-Rufai built roads, he also responded to the needs of the people.
“El-Rufai was also the sort of minister when the people have a major problem, he did not take the senator to common people like me to say, ‘Oh, the place you have moved the abattoir to, there’s no infrastructure’,” she said.
Kingibe further emphasised that a minister must be attuned to the concerns of the people in order to properly identify and address areas of deficiency.
