The Chairman of the Cross River State Local Government Service Commission, Darlington Eyo, has assured that the ongoing staff audit is aimed at sanitising the system, not victimising workers.

The audit seeks to remove ghost workers, reduce the wage bill, and create job opportunities.

Eyo explained that the Commission inherited an over-bloated payroll, despite high attrition rates.

“We must ensure the entire system is sanitised to create room for others,” he said.

The Commission has also addressed unemployment by recruiting over 4,000 workers, with successful candidates already working and receiving salaries.

Eyo dismissed allegations of job racketeering, warning of severe consequences for anyone indicted.

These reforms in the local government service, he added, are part of the government’s People-First mantra, aimed at empowering citizens through sustainable employment.

He added that the audit and recruitment drive are designed to streamline the system and create opportunities for others.
