By-election: Igbinedion’s daughter emerges APC candidate for House of Reps

Omosede Igbinedion, daughter of Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin, and Joseph Ikpea, an Edo politician, have emerged candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for next month’s by-election in the Edo state.

Daily Trust reports that members of the APC queued behind their preferred aspirants as the party opted for the direct mode of primary affirmed by elected delegates of the party.

Omosede emerged APC candidate for the Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representative while Ikpea also emerged the for the Edo Central Senatorial district vacant seat in the senate.

The Ovia Federal Constituency’s primary election committee, Chairman, Barr. Lucky Ajokperiniovo, said Omosede got 5819 votes across 23 wards.

He said the election was a free and fair and that the party worked hard for aspirants to step down.

He said Omosede was the sole candidate of the party for Ovia Federal constituency as other aspirants stepped down for her.

On his part, the primary election chairman for Edo Central, Stanley Uzoamaka, said Hon Ikpea defeated Mr. Glory Momodu with a wide margin for the Edo Central senatorial seat.

He said Ikpea won the election in the exercise that was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.

Meanwhile, State Chairman of the APC, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, thanked the committee for ensuring a peaceful primary.

He said the APC will mobilse and campaign vigorously to ensure victory in the bye-elction, noting ” the election would be affirmation that the APC overwhelmingly won the September 2024 governorship election.
