Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President Iyorchia Ayu, former Kaduna governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and other prominent opposition leaders on Tuesday paid a congratulatory visit to the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja Arusa I.

Other members of the delegation include former Cross River State Governor, Mr Liyel Imoke, one-time Minister of Police Affairs, Mallam Adamu Maina Waziri, and Mallam Kashim Imam.

Oba Ladoja, 81, was coronated as the new Olubadan at a ceremony held last Friday in the Oyo State capital.

Atiku had missed the ceremony held at the popular Mapo Hall.

In a statement after the visit, Atiku expressed delight at the convivial nature of the monarch, whom he described as a “longstanding associate”.

“I was elated that the Olubadan called every member of the delegation by their names, remembering our time together in the public service,” the former VP said.

“Indeed, His Royal Highness and all of us had shared decades of time of service to our dear nation.

“I am proud that Kabiyesi, a longstanding associate, has ascended the throne of his forebears.”

Atiku apologised to the monarch for his inability to physically witness the coronation, citing “protocol logistics”.

Atiku added, “It is my prayer that you will enjoy a long reign in good health and vitality that will usher in more growth, prosperity, and peaceful Ibadanland.

“I trust the assurance of Oba Ladoja to serve justice to his people across all religious or political divides.

“I profoundly thank Ibadan people who turned up in their numbers to receive me and my delegation at the city gate.”
