The African Democratic Party (ADC) has said the only way Nigeria can overcome its current challenges is to remove President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, the party’s spokesperson, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ADC’s central objective is to unseat the president.

“Of course we want to get Tinubu out of power. That’s the only way.

“Because it is only by getting him out of power that we can take our country back. There is no scenario where he remains in power and we are able to save this country.” he said.

Abdullahi accused elements within government of hijacking the country, raising concerns about conduct of some public officials.

“It is more or less hijacked. You see some of the behaviour of the people in government and when people say you can smash it and grab it and run with it, that is a language of banditry.”

He also criticised alleged alterations to recently passed tax laws, describing such actions as unprecedented in Nigeria’s history.

“A government that can forge a duly passed law, what do you call that? You see some things have happened in recent times that are unprecedented in the history of Nigeria. It is the first time we hear that the National Assembly will pass a law, then some people in government will sit and forge it and actually try to pass it off as the duly approved law.”

Abdullahi further questioned the reported payment of nine million dollars to foreign lobbyists, expressing concern over the priorities of the federal government.

“This is the first time that we are hearing that a government of Nigeria will pay nine million dollars.

“Nine million dollars for lobbyists to make them look good before Donald Trump. It is not a bad thing to lobby, but what they are doing? I do not even want to go to the issue of all the processes. How did they award this contract? How was the money paid? Who paid this money? What budget line is it? How was the money transferred out of Nigeria? We are not even going into that. But when you are paying nine million dollars, if you invest nine million dollars in your internal security matters, you will see results.

“And you do not have to convince the president of another country that your country is safe. You are paying nine million dollars to a public relations group in the United States, a company in the US, to make you look good, to tell Americans and the American president that as a matter of fact, what you think about us is not who we are. That is all they care about.”

He accused the federal government of being indifferent to the suffering of Nigerians, arguing that its focus is on image management rather than addressing insecurity.

“They do not care about whether Nigerians are still dying. They do not care about our people who are still being killed. They just want to look good before Americans.”
