Adamawa community seek govt intervention over communal clash

The Bille District in Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State has alerted authorities to a likelihood of violence between it and neighbouring Dong District over some surrounding villages.
Youths of Bille District who mobilise as Bille Youths Federation, told a news briefing in Bille town that the villages in view are those which legally fall under Bille District but have not been formally handed to the district as the law creating the district requires.
President of the Federation, Comrade Wilfred Jerimond, said tension is rising over the villages, which he identified as Kwana II, Mararraban Bille, Tashan Gurgu, Dingle Kasa, and Kwabba, and which he said have not been officially placed under the authority of Bille District since the creation of Bille District in 1992 and after several amendments to the law creating it.
According to him, although the Bille Youth Federation has severally visited and written letters to relevant authorities on the need to fully implement the laws and effectively hand over all villages which the laws indicate should fall within Bille, no such thing has been done.
He indicated that the peace of Bille and Dong was threatened last month, July 7, when some youths of Dong, armed with dangerous objects and wearing black dresses, matched along some of the villages performing rituals and uttering incantations.
“The Dong youths carried out the provocative act in the name of demarcating the border between Bille and Dong districts,” Jerimond asserted, urging relevant authorities to act quickly and implement the updated law creating Bille District, as contained in the Adamawa State Districts Creation (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Law 2024 as it relates to Bille District.
He said such action is necessary to prevent further provocation and possible violence.
In particular, Jerimond urged the state House of Assembly to order full implementation of the law to effectively place the identified villages under Bille District.
