Abia State Government Dismisses Claims of HIV/AIDS Surge

The Abia State Government has firmly dismissed recent reports alleging a surge in HIV/AIDS cases across the state, describing them as misleading and unsubstantiated.

In an official statement issued by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Chukwu, the government reassured residents that the public health system remains robust and that surveillance data do not support any claim of a significant increase in HIV infections.

“We wish to categorically state that there is no alarming spike in HIV/AIDS cases in Abia State. Our data, sourced from regular screenings, partner health agencies, and international development partners, show a stable prevalence rate within expected national benchmarks,” Dr. Chukwu said.The Commissioner urged the public to disregard sensational reports that may incite unnecessary panic.

She emphasized that the state remains committed to the fight against HIV/AIDS through sustained public education, free testing campaigns, antiretroviral therapy, and collaboration with local and international health bodies.Dr. Chukwu also warned individuals and media outlets spreading false narratives to desist from circulating misinformation, as such actions could undermine public health efforts.

The government called on residents to continue practicing safe health behaviors and to take advantage of the free testing and counseling services available in public health centers across the state.
