28-year-old motorcycle rider killed while bargaining for new bike in Edo

A 28-year-old commercial motorcycle rider identified as Ayoade Ohiremen has reportedly been killed while bargaining for the purchase of a new motorcycle in Edo State.
DAILY POST learnt that the incident occurred in the Ahor community on the Oluku Road bypass in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area, Benin City.
It was gathered that the incident took place when the deceased joined other commercial motorcycle riders to participate in the purchase of a new motorcycle.
A source said the deceased operated as a commercial motorcyclist within the Ahor-Uzala environs on the Oluku-Benin-Auchi Road bypass, Benin City.
He alleged that the victim was killed by some members of the community during a disagreement that ensued during the bargaining process.
He explained that the deceased had joined other commercial motorcyclists to request a new motorcycle on a balance-and-carry plan. However, upon arrival at the venue, his colleagues allegedly accused him of foul play, claiming he was not authorized to come for the motorcycle.
“An argument broke out, which led to violence. The deceased was allegedly beaten to a stupor and died on the spot,” he said.
He also alleged that the suspected assailants dragged the lifeless body of the deceased into a farm in the area, where he was abandoned as they escaped to an unknown destination.
The Deputy Corps Commander, Operations of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), Richard Balogun, who confirmed the incident, said one suspect identified as Bello Bawa has been arrested in connection with the case.
Balogun said operatives of the Corps in the area immediately swung into action upon receiving the report of the incident.
He added that personnel painstakingly pursued those responsible for the murder, and in the process, one suspect was arrested.
He said the suspect was handed over to men of the Ahor Police Division, who in turn transferred him to the homicide department of the Edo State Police Command for further investigation.
