As preparations begin for the 2027 general elections, residents of Delta State are being urged to reject money politics and personality-based voting, and instead focus on competence, integrity, and genuine service to the people.

In recent election cycles, politics driven by cash handouts, ethnic sentiment, zoning and personal loyalty has continued to undermine good governance and sustainable development in the state. This trend has left many communities facing poor infrastructure, unemployment, insecurity, and limited access to quality healthcare and education.

The African Action Congress calls on voters to rise above temporary financial inducements and political propaganda, and to carefully assess parties and candidates based on their policies, track records, and commitment to public service.

“Delta State deserves leaders who are accountable, visionary, and people-oriented,” AAC spokesperson Mr Efe Agabi said. “Our future should not be traded for small gifts, short-term benefits, or empty promises.”

Residents are encouraged to reject vote-buying and political bribery; question candidates on their plans for education, healthcare, jobs, and security; support issue-based campaigns and constructive debates, and participate actively and peacefully in the electoral process

The 2027 elections present a critical opportunity for Deltans to reshape the political landscape and demand better leadership that prioritizes development, transparency, and inclusiveness. “Democracy works best when citizens vote with their conscience, not their pockets,” Mr Agabi added. “Together, we can build a Delta State that works for everyone.”

All stakeholders, including traditional leaders, youth groups, religious bodies, and community associations, are called upon to promote voter education and encourage responsible political participation across the state.
For a better future, residents are urged to choose their elected representatives based on character, competence, and commitment—not money or personal influence.
